Episode 01: Dawn Patrol

"Wilco, Fearless Leader."

Balian tried to lock on to them using the computer-aided locking, but to no avail. Each time they were about to be locked-on, they moved out of the targeting computer's 'field of vision' and the lock would be disengaged.

"Damn, they're fast." he gritted his teeth, "For now, I think an up-close and personal attack would be better off than long-distance attacks. Either that or we aim guns the old-fashioned way... But in a battle of this pace, it's not advisable."

“We can’t just leave them there now, can’t we? You guys head back to Frontier, we’ll take care of this.” Aile immediately flipped her channels on and contacted their base back. “Macross Trinity CIC, this is Echo 1 to CIC. We’ve encountered a hostile contact with unknown enemy forces along with Macross Galaxy civilian transport. Engaging offensive countermeasures against enemies.”

“Whaddaya mean unknown enemy forces?” Hitomi responded frantically. “Can you confirm that, Echo 1?”

“Macross Trinity CIC, this is Archer Six from Macross Frontier,” one of the Nightmare II pilots cut in. “We’ve been monitoring the situation as well, and we confirm what Echo 1 says – we have six unknown inbounds heading for a civilian transport that just jumped in-system.”

“We’re also continuing onto your Fleet, Trinity. We’ll have to disregard Echo 1’s orders. We can handle ourselves, and the Konohamaru’s one stubborn sonovabitch itself to be taken down easily. Isn’t that right Konohamaru?”

“Roger that, Archer,” Konohamaru answered. “We’ll stay around and burn for your fleet, immediately, Trinity. Our cargo’s too important to dilly-dally with. And we’ll help out Echo Flight as much as we can as we withdraw.”

“Copy that, Konohamaru,” Hitomi conceded. “Echo 1, you are clear to intercept unknowns and rescue the transport. We’ll be sending reinforcements as soon as we can, so take all necessary caution. Try to gather as much info on the bogies as well. Confirm your orders and execute your mission.”

Meanwhile, Adrian began his tactical scan. The distance wasn’t helping, as was the fast mobility of the unknown bogies. What little information he could gather wasn’t any clearer, except that the bogies where insectoid and crustacean in body form, sending wave after wave of laser pulses after the hapless transport.

Two of the bogies looked like large red bipedal pre-historic crustaceans bigger than any of the Diamondbacks’ and Archers’ variable fighters. The bulbous body looked to be tough and armored, with a small head peeking out in the front. Large pincer arm protrude to the sides, in front of two hind legs. A long tail with serrated blades stretch from the back, while a long conical membrane was mounted on top of the body.

Flanking the two were four, smaller, gold colored six-legged insect-type mecha, with a head similar to a hammerhead shark. They looked less bulky and armored as their red cousins, but looked faster and nimbler by their movements.

All six bogies were unknown to the current mecha identification database on the Super Thud’s on-board computers. Such information was bad enough, but what was more revealing was the fact the Super Thud’s target acquisition radars were having a hard time getting a lock tag on the unknowns, failing several times completely and needing to get a new bearing as well.

“Whaddaya mean unknown enemy forces?” Hitomi responded frantically. “Can you confirm that, Echo 1?”

“If I could then I would, dammit!” Aile barked at the radio, already gripping her controls tight.

“Suit yourselves! Don’t come whining back to me when those “things” got your butts kicked!”

“Diamondbacks, you heard CIC. Take them out and rescue the transport.”
Aile struggled to lock on her targets, but to no avail. They were starting to get into her nerves she finally let loose.

"Eat this!!!"

1: Fires volley of 21 HMMM at enemies
2-8: Strike with gunpod full melee burst at Greater Vajra 1
9-10: Dodge any incoming attacks.
Auto: Leap dodge, parry, roll.
