Investigative Reporter / War Correspondent OCC

Players in Macross Frontier can roleplay as Investigative Reporters or War Correspondents working for the Macross News Network of City-27. The investigative reporter and war correspondent are unique occupational character classes because they are civilian OCCs that can be authorized by the UN Spacy to work with the military and allowed access to the war zone.

The main difference between the investigative reporter and the war correspondent is that the latter has a complete understanding of military procedure, rank, law and conduct. This character is likely to have been a former soldier with some military experience and some degree of combat training. The war correspondent would know how to use a weapon, has sources, contacts and friends within the UN Spacy and has experience being in the battlefield. Field experience will mean that the war correspondent would know how to conduct himself properly in the frontline, and will not panic under fire, having come to terms with the true horrors of war. His job is to report news regarding war, combat, the UN Spacy and political unrest.

The investigative reporter may just be as capable as the war correspondent, but his area of reporting covers a broader spectrum of civilian events, reporting on everything from disasters to criminal activities, to entertainment and lifestyle, to social and political galas. These characters are usually people without any formal military background or training, but generally have a feel of the civilian population. They know the streets and back alleys of Macross-27 and the rest of the colony fleet’s civilian ships like the average person would know the highways. They can spot a celebrity, military officer, political leader, criminal kingpin or any other famous public figure at a glance. While the investigative reporter would likely not have any combat experience, however, he/she should be accustomed to keeping his/her head and understands the need for discretion and resourcefulness in the pursuit of a story.

A reporter’s relationship with the UN Spacy can be good bad or indifferent. Ultimately, this will depend on each individual character. The military is likely to view some reporters with respect and consider them to be friends and allies. Other reporters are seen as nuisances, troublemakers or even despicable – these latter reporters will get little if any cooperation from the UN Spacy authorities of Macross-27.

All in all, the Macross-27 Colony Fleet Command is pretty tolerant of reporters, especially war correspondents from the respected Macross News Network, but considers all other reporters in the fleet as unavoidable nuisances. The most respected reporters are those who coordinate their activities constantly with M27 Command and exchange or share information. However, most reporters and even the UN Spacy officers tend to be tight-lipped regarding important secrets and exclusive scoops and information. Also, the UN Spacy has been known to interfere with the media – altering / editing or suppressing news footage and presentations – usually for the sake of security in the fleet. On a few occasions, the military confiscates and destroys footage or documents deemed to be dangerous for the general public, but this has yet to happen within the M27 fleet. Overall, however, the M27 Command and UN Spacy in general are reasonable honest and sincere with their dealings with the media services of the M27 colony fleet and the general public. Again, it just all depends on how the media treat the M27 Command – if they are treated fairly, the return in fair and just kind. Treat them as villainous militarist or incompetent commanders, then the M27 Command will be surely indifferent or overtly hostile to the media.
