Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier marks the 25th anniversary of the Macross anime franchise. It is a direct sequel to Macross 7 and follows the lives of Saotome Alto, Ranka Lee and a Pop Idol named Sheryl Nome on board the new space ship Macross Frontier. Human kind after the war against the Zentradi have spread across the universe in order to maintain humanity through the use of new space ships called the Macross Frontier in a effort to spread and maintain the culture of humanity. ^In some ways, yes...

A lot of people are speculating that Sheryl is a decendant of the Nome sisters from M-Zero, given the same family name. I tend to believe so.

I figured she came from the line of Mao Nome, because Sara sorta "disappeared" into deep space at the end of M-Zero, if my memory serves me right. But she could be a direct decendant of Sara as well, in case Sara and Shin Kudo had kids in some distant planet.

And Ranka is playing Mao in the Shin Kudo biographical movie in the next ep of MF.

So it's like a Macross movie within a Macross series? Cool...

Was that what they meant by the Legend of Zero?

So the Nome sisters MIGHT be connected to Sheryl?!

It's possible that Mao Nome became a doctor. She was still 14 at the time of M-Zero.

Not only are the Nome sisters connected to Sheryl, but Ranka as well.

Theory:

Ranka Lee is the granddaughter of Doctor Mao Nome, and lived on the 117th Science Exploration Fleet. Ozma Lee hinted by saying that Ranka was following Doctor Mao's footsteps by playing her in the movie, which also hints that Ozma may have even known Doctor Mao personally.

The fleet was investigating the Kadun/"bird man" creature that took Sara Nome and Shin Kudo off to deep space via spacefold at the end of M-Zero. Brera Sterne is also part of the 117th, and can be Ranka's biological brother.

During one mission to deep spacem the 117th encounter the Vajra, who I theorized as connected to the Kadun/"bird man". The 117th was destroyed, Brera was presumed killed with his and Ranka's parents. Ranka survives as she is rescued by Ozma, who adopts her as his little sister.

I believe in this theory because of Brera's quiet protectiveness of Ranka. He's almost always around her eversince he came to Macross Frontier. Plus the fact that when Ranka saw him after he saved both Ranka and Alto from the Edenite Hydra, Ranka called him "brother", before lapsing back to her condition of blocking out violent memories.

I also believe that Brera survived the 117th disaster by being rescued by an unknown group (signified by the person Leon was talking too at the restaurant), taken to a fleet (Macross Galaxy is my pick), and given a new lease on life by becoming a cyborg (thus the Macross Galaxy connection, which is known for its cybernetic medicine).

Leon hinted that the VF-27 could not be piloted by an ordinary human or Zentraedi even in X-Gear, and Brera first appeared in the anime after a Macross Galaxy ship folded near the Frontier while being chased by the Vajra, adding more to his connection to Galaxy.

That makes sense... So if Ranka came from Mao's line, then Sheryl may have come from Sara's line?

And Brera might really be her brother... the only other time I've seen her react like that was with Ozma...

wow... MF really got the exact lines and action from the original Zero

Sheryl's making the moves to bring Alto away from Ranka. The love triangle is ON! And it looks like Sheryl has some medical treatments that only Macross Galaxy has... hmmm...

The VF-27 is L.A.I. technology? If so, then its another secret project seperate from SMS' VF-25?

New ED... showing Ranka baking... probably the variable fighter cookies she planned to give for Alto's birthday. I couldn't translate, but it seems the song should be Seikan Hikou.

Next episode has a Kamujin look-alike as an enemy, in a planet called Gallia 4, where Sheryl and Alto went.... can't wait for episode 12!

Episode 12 (RAW) is out!

SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS!!!

Sheryl heads out to Gallia 4 for concerts, with bodyguard Alto in tow. Gallia 4 turns out to be the base of the UN Spacy's 33rd Marines, made up of troublemaker, full-sized Zentraedi, led by clones of Vrilithawai, Exedore and Khravshera. Some of the giants revolt and take the officers and Sheryl's entourage hostage. as an exhausted Sheryl is overtaken by her fever. The rebels begin moving nuclear weapons from the base stockpiles.

Alto tries to make a break for it on his VF-25, but is caught in a firefight. But help comes in time in the form of Mikhail's VF-25, carrying wing mounted speaker pods ala Basara's Fire Valkyrie. And to add to the fun, Ranka is in the copilot seat, singing - proof that music and culture is still the best way to beat rogue Zentraedi. So Ranka has taken the fore in the Minmay role for this Macross series at least. And it's the first time I saw a songstress make giant Zentreadi soldiers faint from massive nosebleeds for doing a cutesy song-and-dance number! I love it! WOOHOO

Nanase eats bento. Look at the rice ball XD. Plus Nanase/Ranka yuriness!

Alto pulls a pretty decent version of the Fokker Feint. And male Zentraedi can now pilot Queadlunn Reas, rather than it being primarily a Meltran (female Zentraedi) mecha of the past.

AND OF COURSE, THE BIG CLIFFHANGER AT THE ENDING! Wont' divulge this one, but for all you die hard Macross fans, I promise - YOU'LL WANNA SEE THIS EPISODE!

I dunno. Coz Minmei, Hikaru and Misa left on the SDF-2 Megaroad-01, which isn't a Macross. Unless there's a Macross with them.

I've read references from Palladium, Dave Dietrich and Macross Compendium saying that the SDF-1 was once an Inspection Army gunboat, that during a battle with the Zentraedi made an emergency fold and eventually crashed on Earth.

I think that this Macross that Alto and Ranka saw, together with the original SDF-1 are just two of many more of the same class of starships in the Inspection Army - the old enemy of the Zentraedi. The Inspection Army is army of the Protodevlin of Macross 7, and IMHO, probably allied with the Vajra of Frontier and the "bird men" of Zero as well.

i really can't get enough of Ranka's dance

she's too cute... yet doesn't give me the effect of flying like Sheryl's songs... nonetheless she's overflowing with cuteness!!!

oh, i just downloaded ranka's album... hahaha... her Pairotto song was superb
